Last weekend we visited a garden called Langwell at Berriedale. Beautiful walled garden.

Yesterday we explored Golspie - the beach, links and a wonderful rocks and fossils shop. I bought an orthocerus- 400 million years old and a pretty polished fossil ( and a pair of garnet and silver earrings!). We found a great run for the dogs- dunes and sea one side and forest and lake the other. Heather Corrie and daughter Sheridan had a fabulous run. This is yet another great nature reserve in this area with unique wild flowers.

Wonderful photo of Shadow in Germany at 14 months

We went to Lybster Gala yesterday- lots of colourful floats, music, bands, stalls etc and our Kendal was Champion of the pet show. Young street dancers and The Macdonald Brothers from The X Factor.

From my kitchen window at 5.00am this morning - fabulous

Latheronwheel Harbour has a tall and quite forbidding cave. We clambered about the rocks quite happily yesterday walking off a lovely Sunday lunch at Dunbeath.

The little river running down to the harbour is pretty.

When you come out of the cave you are more or less straight into the sea- there are some very pretty stones and I always come back with a few in my pocket.

Caithness Junior Pipe Band supporting the open day-11th June- to have the outdoor centre in Rumster Forest rebuilt.  The wildlife and flora are unbelievably assorted, quite rare and well worth looking after. The forest has lovely walks and we use it a lot as it is on our doorstep. Disabled activities as well as most outdoor sports could be accommodated. The Husky sled people already use it for running the sleds.

Carpet of orchids.

Yesterday- Friday 10th June- we visited The Castle of Mey- the retreat the Queen Mother restored and used for holidays. It looks out over the Pentland Firth to The Isle of Hoy and Orkney and has a lovely walled garden.

One of the amazing things about this area is the fantastic abundance and variety of wildflowers- meadows with orchids, lady's slipper, lady's smock, banks of primroses and so many more. After you come through The Highlands, you arrive at the lowlands again and we catch the edge of The Gulf Stream. It is a sort of micro climate. I have started a gallery of wildflowers if you are interested.

Wildflower Collection Gallery   (to be gradually extended)

Wow Heather's Mum Am Ch Munroc Forest Amber has just gone CACIB and BOB at Neumeunster International Show and Heather's son Some Rock a Fella (Shadow) gained his third excellent grade and achieved his Junior Championship. Well done Silvia. It is wonderful.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

We spent yesterday having a picnic on the beach- glorious weather so we made the most of it and glorious unspoilt beach. Yes I know I have let my hair go grey!! But who cares?

Lovely picture of Amber and Shadow enjoying the lovely weather.

Well done to Pudsey and Nicky going BOB at Bath and Wells Agricutural Show

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday 30th May was North Riding Gundog Club Show and young Beau Brown was Best Puppy and Reserve Best in Breed. Very well done. Judge was Mr Terry Cooper.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

On Saturday 21/5/11 the Marshall family went to Otley Agricultural Show and Flint, handled by young Ben - in his first show- was Best Gundog and BEST IN SHOW against over 200 dogs. How wonderful is that. They also got a special Barret Cup and lots of goodies. It was Ben's first show as well- a new junior handler in the making maybe !!! Well done folks.

Yesterday 21/5/11, our lovely boy Mackenzie

went to his first show- Gordon Setter Club of Scotland Championship Show and was first in Junior Dog which also qualified him for Crufts 2012. His brother Shadow, was also first in his Junior class in Germany with a grade of Excellent.

 Two very clever boys !!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------

What a gorgeous day today and we took Heather and one of her children for a walk to give the youngster a chance to learn to be off the lead. They had a lovely time- swam in the loch and ran over the moorland.  It is called Munsary Peatland Nature Reserve and the wildflowers are just starting to appear in numbers- Ladysmock, Flax, Kingcups, Wild Violets. My new wildflower gallery is on the garden page.

We came back and had a coffee at Lybster Harbour where the Waterlines Museum has a rather nice coffee shop. We sat and listened to the sea and watched the lobster boat come in and unload.  This the Waterlines museum and cafe.

Young Beau Brown went to his first show aged 7 months at the weekend- Saltburn Open Show and did soooo well.

AVNSC  Gundog Puppy -   1st

Best  AVNSC   Puppy

Gundog Puppy Group 1

AV Gundog Puppy - 1st

What a wonderful set of results for both the dog and Pauline. Beau is the son of Suzy (Canonsett Truly Romantic) and Sh Ch Bournehouse Silver Dreamer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had a wonderful email from Judy and some photos of Flint. Her writing is hilarious- she should take it up as a script writer!! Flint is looking good.

Two Happy Birthday pictures of Dolly- sister to our young PRT's. Doesn't she look smart. Thanks Margaret

It was really lovely to receive a cd in the post from Beau Brown and family showing him from 8 weeks up to date. I have taken 4 of them and put them below. What a handsome chap. He loves watching tv and saw his auntie go BOB at Crufts 2011.

Bank Holiday Monday and the weather was glorious. We visited Dunrobin Castle and gardens and falconry. I was lucky enough to snap the Gyr Falcon in flight. To see more views go to the northen views gallery on my homepage.

It was great to here from the Bartletts and see pictures of Ralph and Oscar on holiday on Skye

Bank Holiday Sunday and after lunch out we walked to the Castle of Old Wick- built in 1160 when the area was run by The Vikings. What a site they chose and some very steep drops down the cliffs. Can't you just imagine the longships tied up at the natural jetty -third picture.

We found a palce called Whaligoe Steps as well and I foolishly went all the way down but then had to climb up all 325 of them to get back. The zigzags are where the steps are.

Today Sat 30th April, Shadow won his Junior Trial--This is his Derby 1st prize-- a trial for junior dogs up to 17 months.  What a clever boy- and Richard and Silvia did pretty well also !!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Castleton Beach- there are three and a half miles of sandy bay between Castleton and Dunnet. Corrie and Heather love it. There were some hardy surfers- apparently this area is a mecca for surf addicts. These ones were German I think. Thurso has hosted some world competitions.

Today we went to a gundog demonstration and fund raiser for Labrador Rescue. Bought a lovely lead that can be either a slip lead or a fastened one in bright orange for Heather- the lady was from Germany so very suitable. The field was lovely all edged with daffodils and the dogs enjoyed their relaxing day out.

Beautiful picture of young Waldo in Jersey

Best Gundog Puppy, Best Junior Gundog, Best Novice Gundog and Best Setter in Show. He then went Best Puppy in Show, Best Junior in Show, Best Novice in Show and qualified for Crufts 2012.

What a lovely Happy Easter picture from Silvia of Amber and Bailey. Happy Easter to everyone out there.

Young Pudsey who is Daisymae and Sh Ch Wansleydale Witch Doctor's son not only was Highly Commended at Crufts 2011 but at English Setter Society of Wales Championship Show April 2011 was 2nd in Junior, First in Maiden and First in Novice. Well done to both Pudsey and Nicky. I am so proud of you both.

I am so thrilled with the news from Jersey. Young Waldo who went to live with Andrew and his lovely labradors went to his first show at seven months- results under Mike Gadsby and Peter Jolley

Best Gundog Puppy, Best Junior Gundog, Best Novice Gundog and Best Setter in Show- beating even dogs with CCs. He then went Best Puppy in Show, Best Junior in Show, Best Novice in Show and qualified for Crufts 2012. Andrew also tells me he loved showing and thoroughly enjoyed his day out.

To make the day even better, Harvey the Labrador won his second CC and was 4th Best in Show. What a super day they had.

Waldo is the son of Lali and Penny William's Silver Dreamer.

26/3/11 4 yards from my kitchen window

21/3/11 We are discovering lovely walks around here now. About 3 miles from where we live are the Achavanich Standing Stones beside a loch and conservation area for plant and wildlife. No stock and miles of walking. The sign says the 'Road to Nowhere'- 36 stones arranged in a U shape. Either for important people who died or maybe for human sacrifice !!!

The walk past the loch

A couple of miles further on there are the Camster Cairns- 4000 or 5000 year old burial chambers that have been restored. You can actually crawl right inside on your hands and knees if you want to- it looks very murky so I will give that a miss.

All of the tiny places on the coast have harbours. Most are not working any more with the fishing industry declined. You would have to be good at steering the boat to use this one at Latheronwheel.

Going down to this harbour is a pretty stone bridge and you can walk over it to set out on a clifftop walk but a bit too dangerous for the dogs.

12/3/11 After 6 days of glorious weather, we woke up to a light covering of snow. Arran enjoyed it but by lunch time it had turned to rain thank goodness.

6/3/11 Some pictures of Heather and Corrie enjoying Reiss beach- a gorgeous stretch of sand just above Wick.

Heather was Best of Breed at Coalville Open Show in January 2011.
